Five CubanHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 5. The demand so Rene Gonzalez -one of the five Cuban antiterrorists incarcerated in the United States- can meet with his family in Cuba after getting out of prison, is the center of a campaign of solidarity to be held on October 5.

Promoted by the International Committee for the Freedom of The Cuban Five, the campaign urges all friends of Cuba who support the cause of the Cuban fighters so they get in contact with the White House on October 5, two days before Rene’s release from prison.

The call requests that e-mails and faxes are sent and that telephone calls are made to President Barack Obama “to demand not only the immediate return of Rene Gonzalez to his homeland, but also the release of the five Cubans now.”

The text of the communique, published by the Prensa Latina news agency and reproduced on Tuesday by the Juventud Rebelde newspaper recalls that, due to a decision of the US government, the Cuban hero won’t be able to return to his home and family.

Judge Joan Lenard, of Florida’s southern district, defeated on September 16 a petition presented by Rene Gonzalez that would had allowed him to return to Cuba.

The communique denounces that, in an unprecedented decision, René has been ordered to stay for three years –under a so-called supervised release- in Miami, Florida, the cradle of the most ferocious anti-Cuban terrorism. (acn)
