HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 4. The Lakers baseball team, from the Grand Valley University of Michigan, United States, will play three games in Havana this week against a local university team.
Two of the games have been scheduled for January 5 and 7 at the capital’s Santiago ‘Changa’ Mederos Stadium, while the third one will take place on January 6 at the Latin American Stadium, also in Havana, as recently announced by the Cubadebate Web site.
The visit’s calendar will be coordinated on Wednesday between executives of the two countries’ teams.
The trainer of the US university group, Steve Lyon, who visited the island in November, 2010, said that his athletes “will enjoy a great experience in Havana.”
In 2011, the Lakers had an excellent season, with 52 victories and five defeats, a result that allowed them to play for a ticket for the World University Series.
During the previous season, the Lakers, with strong pitchers and batters, set a record of 32 consecutive triumphs. (acn)
