BaseballHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 29. The Cuban baseball squad participating in the World Port Tournament underway in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, defeated Curacao 1-0 in the beginning of the second round.

The team, coached by Roger Machado, once again evidenced its lack of offensive, and for the first six innings could not produce against starter and later loser, Raydel Isabella.

Cuba finally scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when Yordanis Samon popped out to the outfield, batting in Yasiel Puig from third base.

The most interesting managing decision this game on the Cuban side was to bring as reliever right-handed Yadier Pedroso, who had acted as starter previously and now leads the pitchers with 10 2/3 scoreless innings.

Oedroso relieved starter Dailier Hinojosa in the eighth inning when he struck out two batters: second baseman Mayron Wijman and outfielder Rudney Balentien. Hinojosa had pitched five hitless innings, and the second hit was allowed by Pedroso in the ninth.

Now Cuba accumulates 3 wins and two losses, the same results as the host team, but Cuba is favored because of the particular outcome.

The first two teams will play the final this Sunday, and currents leaders Chinese Taipei (5-0) have the best chances to be one of them.
