HAVANA, Cuba, May 21.The advances of the campesino and agro ecological movements in Cuba in the last five years will be exhibited in Havana on Monday during day one of the 9th International Encounter on Organic and Sustainable Agriculture.
Representatives of the provinces and guests from Italy, Brazil, Spain, Costa Rica and Mexico will gather at Havana’s Hotel Nacional to appreciate the outcome of the initiatives of the Cuban urban and suburban agriculture. Mario Gonzalez Novo, Secretary of International Relations of the Agricultural and Forestry Technical Association (ACTAF) told the press that they will also discuss topics related with the impact of climate change in agriculture.
Gonzalez Novo explained that the event which will run until the 24th will also discuss the impact of science and technology in increasing the yields of the crops, the role of the young people in agricultural activity, forestry management and the use of alternative energies.
The delegates will have the chance to visit farms, patios and agricultural and poultry cooperative production and will be able to exchange experiences with producers.
The concept of sustainable agriculture is the use of harmonious technologies with the environment, as well as agro ecology, protection of the soil, the use of natural residues like compost among others.
