CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Jan 27. Interested in knowing more about Cuba’s reality, a group of US citizens is now on a one-week visit of this province, as part of the twinning of the city of Tacoma and this territory.
The foreign visitors, most of them retirees of various professions, accompany the Northewest Sinfonietta, a group invited by the Tomas Terry Theater and the government. Coming from other localities like Seattle, Portland and Colorado, they tour educational centers, art galleries, communities and culture centers of the municipalities of Palmira and Cumanayagua.
They also meet intellectuals in the province to know about similarities and influences between the Cuban and US cultures.
Likewise, they have expressed their interest in the characteristics of the educational system and the new changes taking place on the island.
Cynthia Duncan, a professor with the University of Washington, who has been visiting Cuba since 2001, pointed out that these meetings strengthen friendship bonds between the two peoples, and added that they’re happy to interact with Cubans and know more about the reality of this nation.
The director of the local Terry Theater, Miguel Cañellas, also assessed the visit of the musicians and the rest of the US delegation as a valuable way to enrich bilateral cultural exchanges.
