Cuban Theater Director Vicente RevueltaHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 10. One of the most prestigious figures of the Cuban theater, Vicente Revuelta, passed away in Havana at 82.

Revuelta was one of the founders, in 1958 along with his sister Raquel Revuelta, of the Teatro Studio theater group, which later became an emblematic company that represented the best of the Cuban and international theater repertoire.

In 1946, he started his artistic carreer as an actor in the play “Forbidden to Commit Suicide in Springtime” directed by Alejandro Casona.


A few years later he joined the Nuestro Tiempo Cultural Society where he used to teach seminars and lectures.

After founding Teatro Studio, he directed and participated as an actor in many plays and films.

Revuelta made many tours and gave lectures in more than 15 countries of Latin America and Europe. His plays were staged in a wide number of theaters worldwide.

In recognition of his work as a theater instructor at several cultural institutions and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), Revuelta received the Doctor Honoris Causa in Art honorary title from ISA.

Considered as one of the most outstanding actors and theater directors of Latin America, Revuelta’s death leaves a void in the Cuban theater and culture. (acn)
