HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 31. The Cuban song-writer and singer Silvio Rodríguez, the children’s theater group La Colmenita (The little Beehive), and the Granma Memorial were chosen by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) to be honored with the Barrio Award, in September.
As part of the celebrations for the 51st anniversary of the CDRs, the recognitions will be granted to those persons and institutions that have played a significant role in the shaping of social and family values, from communities or other interactive spaces.
Silvio and his band, along with other artists, undertook tours around Cuban prisons in 2008, and carried out several concerts in different neighborhoods in the Cuban capital during 2010 and 2011.
The children’s theatre group The Little Beehive has done a wonderful work nationwide and in the farthest places with children, who transmit the noblest human values and the Cuban identity through the arts.
This children’s company, very well acclaimed internationally, holds the title of Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The Granma Memorial has also developed an outstanding work in making known the life of heroes and revolutionary actions by means of different manifestations in communities and schools. (acn)
