Chinese Dance and Music Company to Offer Unique Show in Havana PDF Print E-mail

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 16. The Dance and Music Company of the Chinese city of Chongqing will offer a unique show on Wednesday at the Mella Theater in Havana.

Members of the Opera House and the Three Gorges Company, the experienced musicians, dancers and singers traveled to Havana on the occasion of the Spring Feast and the beginning of the Years of the Water Dragon, a very special festivity within the Asian culture and celebrated by the Cuban Chinese community, according to a press release by the Cuban National Council of Performing Arts.

The show includes musical interpretations in different formats and dance and choir performances showing the traditions of China, Inner Mongolia –an administrative region of northern China- and Latin American countries.

The Chinese ensemble has participated in festivals, such as the International Festival of Shanghai Arts, the Chinese Theater Festival and the National Symphonic Season.

Likewise, they have received different awards like the Mandarin Best Repertory Prize, Best Performance Prize of the Dance-Theater Festival of China and Gold Medal in brass instruments; as well as the Distinction for the Service to Culture.

On January 20, the company will perform alongside students from the Wushu school of Havana in Chinatown. (acn)
